Black-tipped Bullseye

Black-tipped Bullseyes are part of a small family of Bullseyes found globally. Bullseyes have a distinct body shape with very large eyes in a rounded head and a short snout. They feed on plankton at night and during the day can be found in caves and under ledges. Black-tipped Bullseyes are found on rocky reefs and occasionally enter estuaries.

Black-tipped Bullseyes are a yellow to orangey brown over the sides with a greyish colour across the back. They have black tips to their dorsal, caudal and anal fins, the latter having a black margin to its trailing edge. There is a silvery shine above the lateral line.

 

Confusing Species: Small Scaled Bullseye

Small Scaled Bullseyes can be found schooling with Black-tipped Bullseyes however they lack the black tips to their fins, have a brown colouration to the lateral line and a wide vertical bar behind the head.
