Striped Catfish
Common Name: Striped Catfish
Scientific Name: Plotosus lineatus
Family: Plotosidae
Found: WA, NT, QLD, NSW
Maximum Length: 35 cm

Found around all around the north coast of Australia from southern WA
to mid-coast NSW. Juvenilesform tight schools but as adults they are found
in small, loose groups or solitary. Adults are nocturnal and are found
in caves and crevices during the day. The dorsal and pectoral fins possess
spines that are capable of inflicting a painful sting. It is not advised
to risk exposure to Catfish stings even if previous exposures have not
resulted in an injury.

Striped Catfish have barbels around the mouth and two pale lines on either
side of the body, one above the eye and the other below. Juveniles have
a dark colouration that becomes reddish with maturity.
