Fish Biodiversity Survey -
Sun 6th
Identifying which marine species live in Sydney Harbour and the abundance
of these species will assist in gaining an understanding of what lies
beneath the Harbour's surface. This will assist us in appropriate environmental
management of our harbour.
The
HarbourKeepers fish biodiversity study on the 6th of February was a huge
success. ProDive supplied the boat that took divers Old Man's Hat, a popular
dive site just inside North Head. There was great visibility and the water
temperature was just right.
The HarbourKeepers were instructed in fish identification and kept records
of all aquatic life they came across.
Target species observed by the HarbourKeepers were Yellowtail, Morwong,
Old Wife, Mado, Blue Wrasse. Some lucky divers were also rewarded with
glimpses of Weedy Sea Dragons and some had close encounters with Blue
Gropers.
More Fish Biodiversity surveys will be conducted throughout the year.

Bush Regeneration - Reef Beach, Balgowlah
Heights
Sun 20th
Sunday the 20th was a great day out for all who participated. The
site was right beside the Manly Scenic Walkway at Reef Beach, with great
views out to North Head.
A NPWS officer was present to give some help for those unfamiliar with
the process of bush regeneration. Also present were a number of Reef Beach
Volunteers, a core group who meet regularly to conduct bush regeneration
at the site. The number of HarbourKeepers volunteers to turn up was also
very satisfying.
To get involved in Reef Beach bush regeneration register
as a HarbourKeeper. Once registered you will receive regular email
newsletters about upcoming events, however if there is an event you are
interested in attending before you receive a newsletter contact Dave daver@marine.org.au.
