Marine Clean-Up - Sun 2nd
HarbourKeepers
divers went out to Manly on Sunday 2nd to remove rubbish from the area
surrounding Manly Ocean World. Local residents, Manly Environment Centre,
council employees and local councillors had all reported large amounts
of rubbish in this location.
Pro Dive generously donated their award winning vessel, Sealife V, and
dive equipment for the event.
HabourKeepers volunteers were given a brief training in the most environmentally
sound techniques for removing litter. In some cases marine debris becomes
habitat for marine life and therefore its removal could actually cause
more harm than good.
Eight
bags of rubbish were collected on the day with most of the litter being
found around the pylons supporting the Manly Ocean World Wharf. Harbourkeepers
collected a lot of the usual litter such as cups and straws but also some
really strange things like CB aerials and bike pannier racks.
The weather was beautiful and the water is starting to warm up after
winter so all volunteers had a good time. HarbourKeepers got to spend
a free day diving in the harbour and did their bit for improving the local
environment.

Bush Regeneration - Reef Beach, Balgowlah Heights
Sun 16th
These
monthly bush regeneration activities are a great chance to socialise with
your fellow HarbourKeepers, help look after Sydney Harbour and take in
the scenic views! Newcomers will learn new skills while regenerating the
natural bushland around Reef Beach.
Bush regeneration at this site is conducted in conjunction with the National
Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). NPWS provide training for beginners
so that everyone could get involved no matter what their level of experience.
To get involved in Reef Beach bush regeneration register
as a HarbourKeeper. Once registered you will receive regular email
newsletters about upcoming events, however if there is an event you are
interested in attending before you receive a newsletter contact Dave:

Scouts Bush Regeneration - Clark
Island - Sun 22nd
Scouts NSW and National Parks and Wildlife Service collaborated to undertake
an exciting HarbourKeepers bush regeneration event.
The Scouts zoomed across the Habrour on their zodiacs to Clark Island
on Sunday 22nd of August. The aim of the day? Tackle those weeds! Supervised
by NPWS rangers, the Scouts were able to remove metres and metres of the
noxious weed Mother of Millions. Clark Island wont need any more bush
regeneration for a while now thanks to the Scouts, NPWS and HarbourKeepers.
