Events - September 2006
Fish Survey Training Workshop - Mon
4th and associated Fish Survey Training Dive - Thurs 7th
Torrential rain will not stop us (we'll get wet anyway) but gale force
winds will. A report of white caps in Chowder Bay was enough to convince
us that this was not a day for surveying - more a day for hot chocolate
and a film! Students from this workshop are now finding places on future
workshops and we are all looking forward to summer more than ever.

Dives are held courtesy of Plunge Diving and the Environmental

International Clean up the World
Weekend - Sun 17th
Be part of a global initiative to improve the environment we, and
every other species on the planet, inhabits by being part of International
Clean up the World Weekend. Since 1993 this event has inspired more than
40 million volunteers in over 100 countries to "Think Globally, Act
Locally" by taking part in community clean ups. HarbourKeepers events
will include beach clean ups and underwater clean ups.
Chowder Bay, Mosman - HarbourKeepers can dive with our Primary
Dive Supporter Plunge Diving to help keep this beautiful bay in pristine
condition. Equipment will be provided but divers must be certified as
PADI Open Water Divers or equivalent, have 25 logged dives and have dived
in the last 6 months. Limited places, get involved by contacting Dave
at daver@marine.org.au.
Camp Cove, Watsons Bay - Dive with Sydney's Underwater Research
Group (URG) to clean up this favourite Sydney Harbour dive site. Non-members
can become free honorary members for the day, however they will need to
provide their own equipment. BBQ and clean ups start at 12.30. Information
about URG can be found at www.urgdiveclub.org.au.
Balmoral Pool, Balmoral - Land-based and underwater clean ups
are happening at Balmoral Pool so you needn't get wet to get involved!
A good chance for divers to bring along their non-diving partners and
achieve a positive environmental outcome. Dive services are arranged through
Dive 2000. Contact Liz Brodie on liz.brodie@snapdragon.com.au for details.
Fairlight Beach, Fairlight - A land based clean up and greening
expo will be held at Fairlight Beach and along the harbourside walkway
by the Fairlight Community Precinct Forum. Come along and get involved
in a clean up and at the same time learn about and comment on plans to
"green" the walkway. A great opportunity for Fairlight residents
to become involved in making their environment a better place to live
and for everyone else to contribute to a positive environmental outcome
that all visitors to Fairlight will enjoy. No need to pre-register, just
go to Fairlight Beach and register on the day: 8am to 12 noon.
URG
HarbourKeepers Fish Survey - Sun 17th
UnderWater Research Group (URG) will be conducting both shore
and boat Fish Identification survey dives on Sunday 17th September.
For information on the surveys click here.
URG
dives are some of the most popular HarbourKeepers activities, so if you
are intersted try to get on board quick! For more information about URG

Bush Regeneration - Reef Beach, Balgowlah
Heights
Sun 17th
These
monthly bush regeneration activities are a great chance to socialise with
your fellow HarbourKeepers, help look after Sydney Harbour and take in
the scenic views! Newcomers will learn new skills while regenerating the
natural bushland around Reef Beach.
Bush regeneration at this site is conducted in conjunction with the National
Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). NPWS provide training for beginners
so that everyone could get involved no matter what their level of experience.
To get involved in Reef Beach bush regeneration register
as a HarbourKeeper.
